Who am I?

Hi!

I am a 22 year old kayaker and engineering student from Limerick, Ireland. I started kayaking almost 10 years ago with St. Pauls Scout group in Raheen in Limerick and have been doing my best to paddle as much as possible since then. I love paddling different disciplines, travelling to paddle in new places and meeting new people. I regularly compete in surf, freestyle, whitewater, slalom, boaterX, polo and the occasional long distance race such as the Liffey Descent so I end up putting up a pretty substantial milage travelling around to different places!

One thing I realised from a young age with the Scouts is that you get out of something what you put into it. I love competing and attending different events, so I try to help out and organise events as much as possible. I was on the Paddlesurf Ireland committee for several years, have been on the Irish Freestyle committee for two years, and was part of the group which originally founded the Irish Whitewater League. I have organised Curragower competitions and Clare Glens races, and hopefully now that I'm finishing college I'll have more time to put into organising different events and generally promoting paddling in Ireland, as well as finding time for training and competing myself!

I competed in both surf and freestyle as a junior for Ireland, finishing 4th in the surf kayak World championships in Portugal in 2009 and 10th in the European freestyle championships in Austria in 2010. Since then I have been working towards making the senior Irish team in these disciplines, and this year it finally all came together. I have qualified for both teams, and am planning to travel to the surf kayak worlds in Spain in July and the freestyle worlds in Canada in August! So it's going to be a pretty awesome summer of travelling and competing!

My plan for whenever I'm in Ireland is to head down to Castlegregory and camp there for the summer; paddling, biking and generally training as much as possible. It'll probably be pretty quiet so if you're in the area make sure to call over and say hi!

This blog is my way of keeping track of everything, it's great being able to go back and recall how each trip or event went several months or years down the line. I hope you enjoy it!

Clean Lines!

Eoin
